Monday 15 June was the first of my Fundraising Debate Clubs! We had a great time debating the topic "Donors should align with charity principles". I was arguing for, whilst Kerry was against- and as you'll see in the video she took a flying lead with the final poll! Would love to hear your thoughts on the topic- enjoy the video!

Interesting debate it’s a very blurred line
So I think on the second point the cost of setting up that kind of tracking doesn’t warrant the size of donation. I think when a donation gets to a certain level where is could have a significant % of impact on a service it should be ethically screened. I think quite often taking money from one ‘questionable’ source you might make good with that money for one thing but somewhere else down the line will be fuelling a negative impact on another part of society.
@Laura, agree! What do you think around the argument though of charities being able to make good of money? And also, of how far we take it- if someone works for an 'immoral' company, how do you decide that is inappropriate or not?
I agree with the statement. If we are willing to accept any donation that is how the likes of Jeffrey Epstein do the damage they do. By doing good with his money didn’t make the money clean it just allowed him to carry on doing the other destructive and abusive things that people turned a blind eye too. This is extreme but if we have no power to screen donations then this can happen.
Secondly I have been in one too many committee meeting where an inappropriate comment was made that doesn’t align with charity values and if we move to a model where any donation gets a green light then you have even less authority to challenge this types…
